Oils and Pastels

Painting has become an important part of my life since moving to Pearl Beach.

I’ve been inspired and motivated by wonderful Pearl Beach artists who generously share their skills and in-depth knowledge on the many mediums and techniques available today.

Still life and beaches have captivated me to this point but I am also growing to love en plain air. At the moment I’m concentrating on acrylics and oils and increasing the size of my canvases.

I have exhibited in a number of Pearl Beach art shows.

Oils and Pastels

I’ve drawn and painted people all my life.

Art is one of the important pleasures in my life now that I’ve retired. I studied visual arts at the Charles Darwin University in Darwin and loved it so much that I stayed on working there for more than ten years. These days I paint quick oil landscapes en plein air and other times draw from a nude model as well.

I also like doing large paintings of magnified flowers and always take art equipment away with me when I travel. I have quite a few travel journals with illustrations of the places I’ve been to. Pearl Beach is a wonderful place to live because of all the artists or art lovers who live here.

I am happy to paint or draw commissions on request and if someone is particularly interested I will open my studio for them to see what I have done over the years.

Oscar Shub

Oscar Shub
Oscar Shub

Oscar Shub's introduction to the arts began with pottery 45 years ago. Some 15 years later he discovered a passion for painting, studying with Lesley Goodman in Perth. After moving to Sydney in 1995 he contin¬ued to develop his technique under the guidance of Russian artist and teacher, Yefim Novikov.

Oscar joined the studio of well-known artist Eileen Rogoff and works with Keith Kearney. His work has been exhibited at numerous exhibitions in Australia and can be found in corporate and private collections across Australia and abroad.

"Over the years my work has moved from literal to semi abstract and reflects my view of what I see in day-to-day life and on my travels. I aim to capture the elements of landscapes but without defined detail. My early paintings were based on photographs of my travels but my art has since moved towards developing my own images, using large brush strokes and swathes of paint. I find the texture and vivid colours imbue vibrancy and bring warmth to the images."
